Program Overview:
Verona Baseball Tournament Teams (VBTT) are an extension of Verona Little League and governed by the Verona Little League Board. All VBTT players must play in the VLL spring season.

We strongly believe in player development. In addition to offering more competitive game opportunities, development of the player through additional training opportunities is essential both for individual players and the teams they play on. Our coaches are involved in a variety of training opportunities, players participate in winter shed and other indoor winter/early spring training, and in-season practices.

Read the Verona Tournament Team Overview in its entirety to understand the try-out process and set expectations for the program.

Team Expectations and Commitment Level:
Sportsmanship, commitment, and communication are expected from players and parents of VBTT. With an increased level of competition, an increased level of commitment is also expected. Each team will have designated team practices and tournaments throughout the season; the number of each is subject to the coaches of each team. The tournament team baseball season is defined as April 1 to August 1. Coaches have discretion in collaboration with the team's parent to schedule outside of these parameters. All teams will have training opportunities throughout the "off-season".

Attendance at practices and games during the season is vital and may play a factor in playing time and positions played. Communication to coaches is imperative if practices or games are to be missed. Please let your coach know of any planned vacations or other conflicts that will prevent attendance at practices and games. Ability to commit may play a role in VBTT selection.

It is not the intention for a VBTT practice to conflict with a regular season Verona Little League (VLL) game, and VLL will work with VBTT coaches to minimize potential conflicts. It is understood that players may have vacations, illness, injuries, family obligations, or other emergencies that will prevent attendance. Up front communication about pre-planned absences to the coach is imperative. We understand the value of playing multiple sports and respect the time commitments that players have made to other sports that are not during the baseball season. VBTT coaches will work with their players to try and minimize offseason conflicts.

It is for this reason we have implemented Orange, Black, & Gray teams.
Orange team players must be able to commit to 7-10 tournaments and attend regularly scheduled practices.
Black team players commit to 5-8 tournaments and regularly scheduled practices.
Grey team (if numbers and volunteers warrant a 3rd team) players commit to 3-6 tournaments and regularly scheduled practices.

8U: Teams will be divided equally based upon skill level. They should play 4-6 tournaments. This is an entry level experience for those interested in tournament baseball. There will not be an Orange and Black level designation at this level.
9U-14U: Teams will first be determined based-upon a player’s choice of commitment level. Teams will then be divided by skill level. The “Orange” team will consist of the highest ranking players that are willing to meet the commitment level required.

Volunteer Hours Buy Out

Volunteer hours are a critical way for us to keep Verona Little League running smoothly, keeping costs down, and providing an excellent experience for all players and families. However, we understand that some families are unable to fulfill the time commitment. Buy buying out of volunteer hours, this provides the league the ability to cover additional costs of having more paid employees present to keep operations running. The buy out for the 2026 season is $300.

Division Structure and Grade Guidelines

(**based on players grade for the 2025-2026 school year)

VLL believes that in most cases it is in the best interest of our players to play in the standard Little League age-appropriate league and we may refuse special placement requests for safety, competitive balance and/or Little League compliance reasons. We want kids to play with their age and grade level peers.

If you want to discuss special placement in a league above or below your child’s grade-based league, please email your child’s name & special request to our league registrar at [email protected].

We do not currently have a program for players born after September 1, 2020. Those with birth dates after this date are considered too young for Little League baseball and should consider playing with the Verona Rec department.

As Verona Little League wants to ensure a safe and fun environment for all players, all players go through a skills assessment in early spring.  All kindergarteners will be considered for a team based on the assessment.  It isn’t a tryout but a way to make sure that the younger players are ready for league play.

Kindergartners are welcome to signup for our rookies division. If after assessments, your child is given the green light to play in our league then we also ask that a parent be willing to support or coach with the coaching team as part of your child’s participation.
